About Ziwig

What is Ziwig ?

Ziwig is a French biotechnology company based in Lyon, which was founded in 2019 and now has around one hundred employees. It carries out a very strong research activity in direct link with healthcare professionals for the benefit of patients in order to develop precision medicine tools and practices and thus transform healthcare systems for the benefit of everyone.

What is Ziwig's expertise ?

Ziwig specialises in the analysis of saliva, the extraction of information in particular by new-generation sequencing (NGS) and its processing, with or without comparison with other data (omics) including real-life data, using artificial intelligence algorithms.

The combination of these resources makes it possible to define expression profiles for the RNAs contained in saliva and thus to use non-invasive saliva tests, which can be carried out simply at any point in the territory, to sign off on diagnoses, prognoses, conditions, sensitivities or resistances to certain treatments.

Does Ziwig specialise in certain therapeutic areas ?

Ziwig is a biotechnology company. Since its creation, it has focused its initial achievements on women’s health, particularly endometriosis. Its technology is agnostic. Numerous studies and clinical trials are underway in other therapeutic areas, notably oncology and neurology.

Is Ziwig a laboratory ?

Ziwig is a biotechnology company that uses disruptive technology to provide a range of services, including the production of diagnostic tests. It is not a biological laboratory for medical analysis. Nor is it a pharmaceutical company. However, these 2 entities, like many others, form the ecosystem required for the development and use of the company’s technologies and products.

What is the link between Ziwig and E4i ?

E4i (https://www.e4i.health) is an endowment fund that helps to structure and organise an ecosystem for exchanging ideas and promoting precision medicine and women’s health, while remaining totally independent of the company’s commercial activities. Endowment fund status prohibits any advertising or commercial activity.

About Ziwig Endotest®

How does it work ?

Ziwig Endotest® is the first salivary test to diagnose endometriosis. Using a simple saliva sample, salivary RNA is extracted and analysed by a new-generation sequencer (NGS). The transcriptomic data files are then analysed by artificial intelligence algorithms to identify the signature of the disease or not. The results are then sent to the patient and the prescribing healthcare professional.

Reliability ?

Numerous scientific studies published in peer-reviewed reference journals testify to the reliability, performance and reproducibility of Ziwig Endotest®. The New England Journal of Medicine published an article in its ‘NEJM Evidence’ edition in June 2023 validating the technology and method behind Ziwig Endotest® (https://ziwig.com/en/our-publications/ ).

Indications ?

Ziwig Endotest® is only available on medical prescription. It is indicated in the context of symptoms suggestive of endometriosis with the aim of making the diagnosis in cases where medical imaging is inconclusive. It is also prescribed under the same conditions in the context of exploring the causes of infertility. Work is currently underway to update the recommendations for good practice issued by the French National Authority for Health (HAS), so that the position of the test in the French diagnostic strategy can be changed if necessary.

How can it be acquired ?

The availability of the test varies according to the country in which it is distributed, in order to adapt as closely as possible to the practices of healthcare professionals and the demands of patients. However, it is always available on prescription.

How much does it cost ?

The price of Ziwig Endotest® is set by the regulatory authorities in the various countries where the test is covered by health insurance. In countries where this is not the case, it is available at prices set by distributors at around €800.
